If you can afford it get it done for state of mind?xtriple wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 6:45 pm Thanks for that Pan, I agree, it is really not worth it but... I've got into the habit of everything being serviced yearly (or sooner if mileage becomes an issue... as if!) and as we all know, I am an utterly paranoid old twat and I'd never relax if I didn't have it done!
My Grandad was in the REME, serviced Mony's tank apparently at one point, not that he'd tell you that I heard it third party or at his funeral? He serviced everything himself for years and when he did finally send stuff off to be done by someone else would think nothing of doing a paulplom nemesis and subtly marking service parts to make sure it'd been done and he wasn't being overcharged.
Re: What did you do today?
Twat, I don't care, I'm not a vag wanker cunt it'll be staying standard, I was lucky tbh I saw the car advertised but had no response to my message so worked out where the house was from the photos and went and knocked on the door, and it was the nicest older couple you could imagine, their daughter arrived back just as I was leaving (who'd put it on FB for them) and said her phone had gone mad with folk wanting to buy it, it wasn't cheap but given the state of the used car market and the amount of utter shit out there its worth every penny.

Layed on my back in the middle of the street next to @xtriple whilst having our tummies tickled by one his dogs.
OK, almost true, gave the Jag rear subframe a serious wire brushing and painting. Have a couple of pictures of some surface rust on a Jag rear subframe.

Re: What did you do today?
Saint John (the member formally known as 'Busmansholiday') did indeed come around this arvo and while I expected him to just help with getting the thing on ramps, he turned up in tatty, scruffy old clothes, or, what in my world is 'the best gear'!
Those pictures above make it look much worse than it is/was. Pretty much spotless apart from a bit of loose/surface rust in a few places. So, yes, the garage really were being fussy twats.
I did help, honest but not for long: about five minutes underneath wire brushing and I felt as sick as a (excuse me)dog... So I got out, shook rattle cans and tried again. Nah, I am officially, fucking useless! So I sat there and looked decorative while Saint John the blessed, wire brushed, sprayed black paint, then sprayed Waxoyl into/all over it. A jolly good job he did too!
I did manage to successfully drive the damn thing down from the ramps... But S J carried them back in!
John can now attest that Bellend really does get fully involved as she spent more time under the car than I did in total. He also took a poor and very confused old chap for a ride I'm my Merc, he visits his wife every day in a care home, but he'd got hopelessly lost so John (ever saintly) installed him in the car and took him to his destination.

Just cleaned the carburetor out on the oily mower.
Float bowl was full of crap so that got flushed out.
Mowed the yard. Needs a new fuel filter.
