The reality crumbles when someone in a Police show uses their own car in the line of duty.

The (not police) team I was on used our own cars for surveillance duties back in the 1980's. Such a mixture of old and newish cars was a far cry from the cars used today.

I remember Special Branch knocking around Southampton in a mis-matched pair of Austin 1100s. One had a roofrack!

In the early 80’s old Capris were seen as dodgy, likely untaxed and uninsured , throwaway drug running type cars- black e46 Coupe with black windows, for Terry .

The Minder Capri was two years old when it first appeared and my Dad had one the same year, a 1977 R plate 2000S - he bought it at six months old and ran it until 1980 when it was replaced by a 1 year old 3000S. They were a respectable enough car in the day.

I reckon Richard and Hyacinth would be in a Citroen C6 as the President of France has one and they absolutely love France after going to her sisters holiday home, the one with the swimming pool and stables, over in Normandy. Of course no one would know what it is, so every point someone asks what it is, the response would be "It's a Citroen C6 and the president of France has one you know. Many in France say they are better to travel in than the finest Rolls-Royce!"

Onslo would definitely be in a Mondeo Mk3 and it'd have fucked TDI injectors or rings, so it'd be smoking away. Bumpers gaffer taped of course. Or maybe an Octavia MK1.

I'd have thought a couple would be too old nowadays for hyacinth to be chauffeured in. If Richard had a promotion maybe a lexus ls600h

I’d forgotten it was a Mk2 and Minder first aired in 1979, I was thinking of the MK1 Facelift it metamorphosised into later. I also think of Minder as a mid to late 80’s show.
In 1979 my Mum had a red 1600 XL Mk2 Capri GBH —N , she kept it until 1985 and I abused it at 17 /18 . I was obviously Bodie in my head not Terry .

In the real world, where a 16H Norton + double-adult were family transport for the broke (like my parents) I guess it is something like a 1.9SD Lupo or a 30 year old Clio.

But over there in the “sporting eccentric” world of convention-resisting petrol heads it has to be the home-built tricycle or maybe the alt-fuelled Minor or Lotus7 clone.
