Well I quite like Visas, we had 2 a D plate and an E plate, either 1.7 or 1.9 diesels. Comfy to drive, big inside for a small car and mega economical, brakes were good from memory.

I do kind of like Jags in theory and basic design but after they have been cobbled together with inferior parts by indifferent workers, the final product loses its appeal for me. They are for the working man who thinks he isn't.

Mainstream late 60s / 70s / 80s French cars aren't interesting, they're downright ugly. For the man who thinks he's a thinking man, but isn't.

And I say that as a francophile unlike that knobhead Hooli... lol

As a non thinking man I like some of the Peugeots; 205, 504 and 405.

I agree about things like Citroen BX s though.

Yep, I chose a cut-off date of 1980s to make an exception for 1990s Peugeots, which don't munt anywhere near as badly as the other Frog stuff (although I think it's a French rule that all Peugeots must also look slightly weird from at least one angle).

I'll also make an exception for the 504 coupé:

Being pedantic my missus's 205 was an 80's car.

I don't think it's pretty, but it is effective.

Paternal granddad was a miner and only ever bought Minis, after he popped his clogs granny had a Mini and a Metro, Maternal granddad, a civil servant, had a Hunter, Shovit, then went Renault bothering because of his lodge connections - 16 Auto, 11 auto. When he retired he bought a Ford Fiasco transmatic which got binned after two years for a R8 Rover 216GSi. After that was a Polo, Borat, X-Type. I'm told in the dim and distant past that other granny had a Beetle but didn't really drive it, so went back to one car.

Mum & dad had a Triumph Herald Estate (new) followed by a Volvo 144 saloon (there may have been a couple of Heralds around the same time), when that went I remember a Land Rover Carawagon, Riley 4/72, DAF 55, Ford Transit minibus, Jaguar XJ12, Golf I 1100GL (brother was learning), Volvo 240 estate, Maestro Clubman D (company car!), Audi 80, Disco 2, Audi Q7, MB Sprinters (drop sides for work) and a MB Sprinter SWB disable conversion (Gleneagles?). Now in abroadshire, he has a Mitsubishi Montero Sport (a 2WD Shogun)

So, I haven't had anything either grandparent has had. Only overlap with the Family cars are the Volvo 240 (hand-me-down) and a Wolseley 16/60 and a Jaaag. He generally avoided Ford/Vauxhall cars and would buy Swedish, German or upmarket BL. Wouldn't touch a French car or bother much with Japanese (even though he drove plenty as taxis).

I'm not fussed as long as it has wheels.

Yeah, it's really subjective & I won't even pretend I'm consistent with my automotive likes & dislikes.

For example, I'd happily drive an Alpine or a Renault Fuego, and I actually like the Citroen AX-GT. Don't tell anyone though.

Having driven as GSA it makes you wonder how the likes of BL and Ford managed to make their cars feel so antiquated in comparison.
