A car for Life?
Re: A car for Life?
London should have been demolished after 1666; that was, I believe Christopher Wren's great plan. Rebuilt from scratch with wide boulevards a la Haussman. Instead we got a good old British lash up with bits of medieval, Tudor and Jacobean London remaining.

Re: A car for Life?
They plonked a motorway straight through the centre of Glasgow and it still grinds to a standstill daily. There are just too many cars and those cars are increasingly large.
Fact of the matter is that 50 years ago UK infrastructure was designed around the concept of private cars driving from residential areas to industrial estates. Ever rising land values mean the housing gets pushed further and further away from the places of work + more and more people commuting in areas with crap public transport.
Also the fact the govt are pressing for reductions in car ownership but invest sod all into infrastructure.
Ever notice that new build estates out in the sticks rarely features provision for off street parking and are often limited to one on-street space per household but there are no busses or trains?
It's madness...

You could even do the speeduino DIY EFI route for the more budget minded as neither of the others are available as kits any more.

Aren't they? I've not kept up to date as I'll probably never have a use for one.

No you can get them but fully built up not as a kit of component parts and a circuit board.

Maybe this on the ignition side?:

Not cheap but I doubt a genuine Merc one would be anyway.

Re: A car for Life?
One final consideration....If we are talking car for life I assume we mean our own lives.
That being the case, I don't reckon the Minor is going to cut it for me as I age. Mrs Rocker is already finding it less than easy to jump in and out of it and I am beginning to wish it was a two door or Traveller with the wider doors....

I don't see me ever getting rid of the XJR, so it's a car for life as far as I know currently. We'll see what happens when I get older as I know it's a pain to get in & out of Jags when my back plays up.
