Re: The camping and caravan thread
Only differences really is we haven't got an in van shower but that's no issue as we never use them because of condensation, no running hot water but we do have a kettle,a porta potti instead of cassette toilet but that still needs emptying just the same and we only have a fire but no blown air heating which in my experience isn't fantastic on a cold night anyway.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
I keep it very simple in the van - submersible pump for cold water into a plastic jerry can (no built in tanks). Small portaloo, no hot water, no standalone heating and only a 12v coolbox instead of a fridge. Mains hookup is completely non-integral just like you would use in a tent. It literally is a camper van - a van to camp in.
Can't be bothered with seasonal drain-downs, built in appliances or owt. Best bit is we can chuck in some fresh water and bugger off all day without being reliant on cafes etc.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
My old van has built in oven, grill and 3 way fridge. Hookup charges leisure battery which in turn powers submersible water pump from a plastic jerry can outside and also powers lights inside. Oven has never been used and is still brand new inside. The hob we use for breakfast and the gas fire. We have no built in tanks at all. Just a waste master under the back of the van with waste outlet under van feeding into it.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
Very similar to the week before in Yarmouth just with less mud pools! We fell asleep to the sway of the van even though the legs were firmly down and it bust a hinge on the front locker.BusmansHoliday wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 6:51 pm Bastard wet in Scarborough last week.

I suppose that widens my caravan options a bit.

Tent-like in their flappiness and sogginess.
Caravan-like in their ability to keep you off the wet soggy ground.
Generally tow well and you can see behind it.
Above review supplied by Mrs Rocker who used to hire them. I have studiously avoided them because I hate putting anything up....The Portafold was enough for me but at least had solid sides.

I still have bad memories of having to put the awning up by headlights with Ex_Mrs_Claim.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:09 pmTent-like in their flappiness and sogginess.

I'd be tempted to get a decent sized tent but carrying it in the back of the P38 with a couple of dogs may cause issues.
