Weld a piece of angle iron across the back at rear of the alko chassis rails each side? In theory it would workDodgeRover wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:06 am
Our UK caravans aren't built don't enough to allow having anything hooked on the back.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
Can we also do recommendations and reviews here too for other van or camper owners to consider for their holibobs?

I was using that term just to see how long folk would react. I personally can't stand it either and makes me cringe just using it in jest.

I can't stand it at all, but it's still below my can't stand headlamp peaks level.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
Right then a few reviews from my travels with our tourer. For information we live in Derbyshire and every reference to mileage and routes is from our address near matlock.
Thorpe park cleethorpes.
The route there I used the a46 and on the way home I came back via the m180,m18 and m1. Prefer the motorway for fuel consumption.
The site itself was clean and tidy. Shower room was clean and tidy as were the toilets. The pitch we had had water and waste drainage for convenience. Local to town centre and easy to access things needed.
Vauxhall holiday park. Great yarmouth
Used mainly the a17 and a46 which wasn't great for economy over the 170 miles there.
Site was clean and tidy as were the shower block. I used to go to this site as a child and to be honest it wasn't the same. Rose tinted glasses and all that. Being on the main route into Yarmouth traffic was not good and traffic in town was bad as well. Roadworks on the a46 still and they were doing sone work in same area when I went to Caister 10 years ago. For me I won't be making any special journeys to reminisce again anytime soon.
We have just landed at presthaven site near Prestatyn. Again showers and toilets are clean and tidy but being in a tourer we are right near main entrance and it took me 7 minutes on mobility scooter just to get to reception. The site is huge.
Been for a ride to the beech on my scooter which I usually find rather difficult as disabled access isn't usually on the forefront of the local councils list so I miss it on getting to beach sometimes or along trails with the wife and dog. I cant say the same for presthaven. Easy opening gates, trails and wooden walkways built through the dunes to the beach and viewing area. Nice site overall and only 120 miles from my house. A38,a500,m6 and m56. Wind was a bit high coming over the top of the m56 but that was it. Definitely come back here.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
Good write-up mate, very useful....I found Vauxhall to be a great place but we only went there for rocking stuff so not very representative of camping there overall. The apartments are nice if anyone wants to use those.
I've booked a few sites up for this year, more than I normally do or did before retirement and lockdown co-incided. I'll try and remember to recommend or otherwise the ones I end up using.
Anyone up in Bub's neck of the woods can do worse than try The Firs in Belper. Handy for Crich and lovely views if t'aint rainin.....

If anyone is in my neck of the woods then feel free to pop in! We used to go to a site out Ashbourne way when I was a kid. Fenny bentley if I recall right.

Re: The camping and caravan thread
I have noticed on all the sites we've been on we have usually got the oldest car and oldest caravan. The caravan especially is at least 10 years old than ones we've seen being a 1985 model. I can safely say though that my car and caravan are not on finance and have no chance of being repossessed!

Plus you're having the same weather and site facilities as they are!
