The only bad thing about the mk2 Focus is the absolutely pain in the arse of changing a pollen filter. Which was easy on Escort, mk1 Focus and all Mondeos.

Thankfully I don't have to work on the bleeder. Agreement was that Mrs Rocker would buy and service this herself (not literally I hasten to add) as I wasn't at all keen but she needed something modern for grandkids and Winter apparently. I've only mucked about with leaky hatchback and stupid interior lights so far.

I've got a few fond memories of my Mk2 Focus.

I've now washed the Saharan sand off the Focus and polished it, using real polish. The whole thing was dull but worthwhile, as was cleaning the interior. Lights, fluid levels and tyre pressures have also been checked. My principal concern is rust; nothing structural has been identified, but the front wings are a mess and the rear arches are starting to go.

Is it time to make some serious enquiries regarding restoration? The car is essentially worthless, but modern cars' inherent fragility, vis a vis crap Chinese electronics controlling everything, bothers me. The Focus could go on for another fifteen years if patched up.

There's already enough electronickery on a Mk2 Focus to put me off restoring one! Part of the reason for buying it was to not get attached and kill it when the time comes rather than have another millstone round my neck of a car in which I have invested emotion as well as cash.....

If I really, really liked it I might consider another, better example but restoration? Not for me personally but it might work for your situation.

They're still common enough to be able to find a good one should I need to but in all fairness I would end up with something a bit older - not a Mk1 though!

The problem I've got is that the car has sentimental value and has been in the family since almost new. My mother bought the car at two or three years old and then passed it on to me. It's part of the family and, because of that, I know that it's always been maintained properly and never abused. Care has been taken, resulting in the interior being in excellent shape and the mechanical side of things being reliable. It's just a shame about the bodywork.

Yeah that does change things a bit, I know.....I am pretty attached to my cars because of people connections and history. Precisely why I bought one with no such connotations!

It might be worth getting a few quotes to fix the worst of it and then have it Dynaxed or whatever to slow down or stop any further deterioration.

Surely it can't be that bad bodywise?
