I wasn't far off with my guess that the Series was '81 then, checking from Eddie's pics it's a '80.

Seems these cunts selling tarted up Range Rovers for £200k with fake old numbers and everything DONT bother to fit wing mirrors. Even plumbers from the Frozen wastes of The North can tell it’s not real , I’d be gutted if I’d had one made.

Just checked that K plate and it comes up as a 1972, so the most expensive Ringer in the World. At least the blue one shows as a ‘93.

all a matter of perspective isn't it :D

Almost correct, the Landy is indeed 1980 S3 2.25 petrol 109. in desperate need of a new chassis but otherwise completely rebuilt.. bastard bodging bodgers wrapped 20 gauge steel around the main chassis legs just forward of the rear axle. There is nothing left inside of the original chassis leg.

The range rover is my dad's not GDU but DOA though the age on both is 1972

Landy fraternity were 100% correct, will you lot be?

Range Rover is older. Just look at the state of it with wing mirror and stainless wiper arms. Positively ancient.
I think the LR is a s3, so can't be older than about 1980? I forget when they came out.
if you weren't Hooli I would have given you a sticker saying "well done champ" but suspect that you might have gone fucking mental and smashed the place up

NorfolkNWeigh wrote: Sun Jun 25, 2023 11:51 am I think it’s a trick question and that Range Rover is newer than it appears, the wheels look too wide to me, which point to a Kingsley type RestoMod of a 1980’s Portuguese 2 door . Range Rovers are like 911’s, in that people will spend tens of thousands making them look old.

I’m not a rivet counter by any means, so just go on gut feeling, but is that 109 a Stage1 ? It looks very straight for an old working Land Rover. My guess S3 1981, RR 1987.
Wheels are standard, the camera makes them look like those comedy restomod wide banded things. The tyres should be 205 profile but those are bastards to get hold of these days and the 235 profile look ok. certainly better than it does here.

RR is a genuine 1972 RR not one of the vin plate rung early 1970s cars that I seem to find all over the place. Got to thank Gordon McBroon for that fuck up when he cancelled the rolling free VED for anything over 25 years old and froze it at Dec 1972 and before.

paulplom wrote: Mon Jun 26, 2023 6:41 am Would they have had wing mirrors in '87?
door mirrors by then, those mickey mouse bonnet mirrors are fucking useless. incredibly expensive too but period correct

I am no slave to originality but they came with the car

There are a number of clues that make any RR that is pre November 1973 quite easy to ID.

The issue as I said above is down the the chancellor of the time banning free rolling VED for anything over 25 years and giving a monster boost to the ved fraud market. Most of it was done to save a few quid for the off roader but when the price of the earliest cars started to climb they all came undone quite quickly.

"Yeah but my dad bought it new in 1971 and I guarantee he never changed anything" yet sitting in front of me is pretty much a complete 1980 2 door RR with some off road mods and associated battle scars

Not always a ringer though. the meccano construction and sudden upgrades in the early 1980s did make for a vibrant restomod scene at the time using much older cars.
