and upon arrival, good lord that was a long trip! didn't help that the trailer had a monster vibration that shook my chassis at 61mph, did it unladen also. So it was truck bothering or filling loosening

My chum moaned like hell that it was lucky that I didn't get pulled by the rozzers for nose weight. I took this piccy of my car still laden with half a ton of crap in the boot  tbh I was probably a bit lucky I didn't get a tug as I reckon rear axle load was close to the limit

heater matrix responded well to 500ml of full phat cola and then 45 mins of me flushing and back flushing. This is good news because shit reproductions blow and fill the car with steam.

Next issue I found with the bloody VM LHD conversion is that the pas and alternator go in different places on RHD car as they do on LHD. Found a chap advertising a VM complete on ebay and persuaded him to sell me the brackets I needed for 1/4 the price of the whole lump. I really didn't need another boat anchor oil burning 4 headed monster in the workshed

new pas pump bracket fits in place now, moves forward a step. Should have stuck a V8 in, would have saved me days on this conversion

I bought this from a caravan site in Suffolk. It was on a playground for the kids, like the tractors you still sometimes get, but with more opportunity for injury. It was comprehensively fucked, though no more than most you see on ebay. The front brakes had been completely removed leading me to suspect it had ended its days as a shunter on the site. It cost £400 in the mid '90s and is a very early long wheel base. The chassis was unique to that year (or so) as it was altered considerably when the 107 station wagon came along.
Along with fixing it up I put a nearly new transit 2.5 di in and a lot of soundproofing. At first it had a homemade dropside body then I built the simple box body as i was fed up with everything getting wet. The load floor was kept low by setting the body directly on the chassis rails and the vehicle gave 8 years of daily work use, covering many trouble free miles.
I regrettably sold it and the new owner also used it for his business until another 8 years further on I saw it for sale again. Apparently it was still working but no longer big enough for his classic car panel firm.

I put that axle on and was glad of it. MOTs were always done with the Tapley and I was once foolish enough to take it fully laden. A pass on the footbrake and a broken halfshaft when the examiner pulled the handbrake on at about 25mph. Happily the meter recorded a pass before the bang, and I drove home with the yellow lever down. It was a relief that the break was not at the diff end so it only took a few minutes to change.

I had a 107 about 30 years ago and snapped a rear halfshaft at the diff end which is a nightmare I will never forget. The halfshafts on a series 1 are an absolute bastard and nearly got me arrested when I borrowed a press that used to sit outside a friends workshop. Bastard wheel bearing still wouldnt come off and that was when I found out the retaining sleeve is a collar you heat to cherry red to fit and just chop off. I never want to do another one of those.

I always avoided touching those things too but had to bite the bullet with my P4s. I renewed the bearings on both as a precaution to save doing it under duress in the future.
Instead of putting the wrong width axle on my current series 1 I used the later fully floating hub and halfshafts with a spacer. Hopefully it might offend someone.
