To be fair to Lightbulbbumfun, it is mildly interesting in some cases... I once repaired the wheelarches on two Astramax vans with consecutive number plates, within weeks of each other. The owners didn't know each other but did live in the same area.

I turned up at an ex-wife's sister's house in my Ascona B to find out that her neighbour's identically-hued one had the next number plate to mine. I took a picture but can't bloody find it now.....

I also had a school chum whose Dad owned a split-window VW van, went on a one-off visit to the local car auction and bought another split just because it had a consecutive plate to his. It looked good on his shop forecourt for a while but he got bored and flogged it.

So I have to confess to some interest - not quite as intense as a mate of mine who can tell the month (plus or minus one or two) and year of issue of most pre-suffix plates I've tested him on. Like I said, the modern stuff is bollocks - meaningless to me.

There'll be 70 plates next month.

Did anyone else get up really early in the middle of the junior school holiday on August 1st each year and stand at the end of the road looking for the first new "F" "G" or "H" plate then?

I'll get my coat.....

I didn't do that but I still remember the first new 'A' reg car. A red XR3

Incidentally, my Mrs dad liked my fancy new car but asked why it was Scottish registered. First part of the plate? S166. So 66 plate apparently...

I used to look out for the first of the new registrations to appear in the awaiting clearance area of the salvage yard. Possibly related to the type of upbringing I had!!!

I spotted a 20 plate Tesla today, one of the first 20 plates I have noticed. It was on the back of one of the recovery company opposites wagons mind.
