Re: 1968 MG Midget
This has dropped to the bottom on the list of car priorities with today's developments! Depressing myself with how much cars are now.

Re: 1968 MG Midget
MOT exempt anyway, innit.
Crash the thing and you're going to in the "IDable by dental records only" category regardless of galloping rot.
As I recall the Midget is in shared storage, so you can always pretend it belongs to somebody else.
Is Mrs SiC the sort of person who will only drive a "good" car, aka something from a premium* German brand? I'd shove her in the Fabia and tell her to buy something herself if she wants something nicer...

Re: 1968 MG Midget
Ha! I have all three of my spots across different units. She does know about the Midget though - not sure I'd be able to keep it from her otherwise.
Plus it was quite an easy explanation - it was paid from the money from my grandads inheritance (the one that died last year, not this), so it was for me to do what I want with it.
She doesn't like the Fabia mostly because she doesn't trust it to be reliable. It does make a few odd noises from the suspension over the bumps, which she finds rather disconcerting. But the key thing she values is reliability and comfort.captain_70s wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 8:03 pm Is Mrs SiC the sort of person who will only drive a "good" car, aka something from a premium* German brand? To be honest, its probably me that's more likely to go for something premium German.
The A4 is the car we drive the most miles in and its quite easy for us to travel ~4-6hours roundtrip somewhere in a day. Despite its shit suspension, you can easily do those miles in it and not feel terribly tired or knackered.
There is only two car brand that I really would trust (well three but their products are too boring) to buy at 5 years old. Eddie Honda knows exactly who that is! Mrs SiC would be more than happy with a Civic or a Mazda 3.

I didn't expect it would be you at all. I'd ask how you figured my address, but possibly rather not know

Re: 1968 MG Midget
Bought a scab plaster (panel) for the A-pillar from Moss. Only the bottom three quarters section but will fix the worst of the bottom. Rubber seal is for the driver's door as the gap is wide enough that I'll get soaked in a rainstorm.
Went down to storage to show my mate it and gave it a quick run around. Also topped up the dashpots which stopped the juddery on acceleration.
Startup is a bit difficult on this at the moment. Needs a lot of choke when cold and easing off ever so slightly will cause it to quickly die. Pretty sure the fuel is pretty much gone off. Once warmed it'll run with the choke fully in but revs are a bit high. Lower than when the dashpots were empty but still higher than I like and turning it back causes it to be even more lumpy.
I've got the opposite problem of oil pressure on this one. Far too high when cold! Potentially the oil relief valve jammed/sticking?

Re: 1968 MG Midget
I'd check the mixtures & carb balance before you worry about how it runs. I know mine was a later one but the carbs always changed on their own as the anti-vibration spring didn't do it's task on the mixture screws.

Re: 1968 MG Midget
I suspect draining and refilling with fresh fuel will make a big difference to running too.
