Surely a good one can't be that expensive?

6k+ for a shiny example from a dealer. Also still potentially full of filler.

This looks nice but £9k for a Midget?

They want £14k for this...

£6.2k for red one thats had its front bumper fall off

£4.2k for this that I was tempted to go see. Just the late Austin (but not Healey) Sprite grilles are a bit awful

I knew the paint would suck on the one I have bought, but wasn't expecting the metal to be shite underneath. Probably wouldn't have bought it if I saw in person. But I have it now, so a case of tarting it up and using it.

I didn't poke this time. Just picked.

Definitely seems like primer as you can see the depth differences from the body paint and the thinner coat of primer. That nearside rear top arch is definitely full of wob though.

At least the underneath is properly solid though. I really didn't fancy a strip down and onto a rotisserie to rebuild all that.

Its the type of car that I could see having the paint taken off, light skim of filler all over, new front wing and fresh paint before its pushed back out the door for 2x more at a dealer.

Please do not poke it just wax it for the winter and use the little thing. It will soon turn into a major project if you aren't careful. Run it and enjoy it for a while then chuck a little bit of paint on it and flog it off before you start throwing a load of cash and time at it. You do tend to get in a bit too deep with these old motors a lesson I am still learning. Buying blind is a big risk but if the price is right and you stick to your budget and sell it if it will go too far over you will be ok. The Peugeot 201 I bought was a perfect example as soon as it looked like it was going to cost more than I could ever get back I cut my losses. It is better to lose 500 now than a couple of grand a few years down the line.

This reckons it's got a Cooper S engine in. The engine code I don't think is from Googling and obv it's not a sump gearbox. Probably why the question mark in pencil at the end of that line

If you think cars are bad, there are quite a number of half electronic projects I have in the loft. Or how many RC Model Planes in the garage loft that I never fixed after getting bored..

The only reason I finish stuff at work is because I both get paid to and also have my boss breathing down my neck otherwise.

No Midget ever had an S engine. Or anything like one. They don't even fit for a start.

Probably a modification to fit the head. I had one with a cooper head some years ago
