I have no idea where the square washers are from but they were in the bottom of the gearbox! I think something failed more so than bearings but the backlash can cause mayhem I guess.

Having thought about it, I think they might be two of three, somewhere under the synchomesh ring.

I'll have a fag first and have a butcher at the WSM diagrams

(Not had me ciggie)

Here are the internals of a Reliant gearbox (from the Kitten manual, but the boxes bar the gear levers are pretty much the same)

Each of the two synchro sleeve bodies (16), house three springs (17), plungers (18) and thrust blocks (20), spaced 120° apart. On top of the thrust blocks are ball bearings (19).

When dismantling the box, wrap a rag or bag round the outer syncho sleeve before pushing the middle out as the ball bearings will launch into orbit and never be found again in the shed (been there, etc.)

So where's the third synchro thrust block then?

Been there done that. It's amazing how much of a gearbox can fall apart before it stops working.

I need to get a voltage regulator. My temp gauge reads hotter than it should when the engine is running and the alternator is putting out. Possibly same thing happening as suggested?

If it's got an uneven voltage then all sorts of fuckery can occur.

Speaking of uneven voltage, do I need a voltage regulator or stabiliser? To ensure an even 12v is getting to a gauge?

Had a nice steady run out. Hooli left me in Chesterfield so me and a friend headed home.
Shit happened.

Suspected head gasket failure and pressure build up. Something has let go. Really bad smoke from exhaust and oil everywhere. I've ordered a top end and head gasket kit with valve seals. Oh joy.
