Hopefully the new carb is ok. It certainly starts and runs better with it until it decides to play up. The new distributor arrived yesterday and I will hopefully fit it tomorrow and see if that sorts the fucking thing. There are centrifugal weights under the rotor arm that are sticking on the old distributor so it should do some good.

Another weekend and another thing goes wrong with this poxy car. I fitted the new distributor and it starts and runs really nicely now. Until today I drove it back down the workshop and it looks like I am still getting muck in the fuel filter nearest the tank. Then to really piss me off when I went to get it off the ramp the clutch has packed in. It had been getting harder and harder to get into gear but now you have to start it in gear. All the hydrulics are new so it must be in the clutch itself. That will be another 200 quid then.

Sounds like one of those ungrateful cars that deserves scrapping.

I have to admire your patience if it was mine (and I hadn't got quite as much money in it) the ungrateful sodding thing would be in the line up for the next Stan Woods.....

The fucker is really pissing me off but I will get it sorted then sell the fucker at a big loss no doubt. I ordered a new clutch today and a gasket set for the gearbox as it leaks a bit and might as well get done at the same time. I will pop in and see the guys who did the fuel tank tomorrow and see what they have to say about the crap I am still getting in the fuel filters. I am sure once it is back running properly I am sure I will change my mind and keep it as it does drive well.

I wonder if the tank has been lined previously and it's breaking up with modern fuels?

The tank has never been lined just cleaned out but it looks like they didn't do a very good job of it. I am now awaiting a clutch from Spain before I can give it another go to see if I have fixed it or not. It was certainly running better last time it was run as the exhaust is grey now rather than the black soot it had before. Now the Thunderbird is just about ready to drive I will take it home and swap the hearse over ready to start on the clutch.

It isn't easy to see in the picture but one of the fingers is lower than the rest. It appears that the Spanish twat who had this clutch apart broke a couple of special bolts setting the cover up. According to the manual you shouldn't have to adjust the fingers without putting it on a special tool. It appears the Spaniard had decided to try and adjust it and broke one of the bolts which are unobtainable, his answer to this was a load of thread lock which worked for a while then let go.

Hopefully the new clutch will be here next week and I can have another go at using the bloody thing.
