Low light convertibles were only made in the 1958 model year. I know of two for sale, one needs the bodywork finishing and then everything else and is $50k and the other is POA. One basket case sold just recently for $23k.

I’m with you on convertible cars for classics though. For years I’ve wanted an early 911 coupe, now I finally made it (almost) with the 912. One drive on my friends targa made me regret my decision slightly. Ok, it’s not as ‘raw’, but my wife’s SUV can get from zero to sixty and back before the 912 can make 45mph.

Why not have something with the ability to get the wind through your thinning hair! It’s worth the added wear!

The V8 would be my choice, go big or go home.
When I was flogging telecoms back in the late '80s I was pitching to the big boss of the overpriced vacuum cleaner company Kirby who had a red 560 SEC. He badly needed a fax machine and although we had a cheap one for sale at a grand he wanted the £1800 NEC item. He was determined to try and swap three of his Kirby cleaners that retailed for about £800 each at the time for the fax. After two hours of negotiation, he offered to buy me lunch and I agreed. He took me in his 560 for a pub lunch.

When we sat down to eat he then proceeded to batter my head into leaving my current job to work for him! He said that I reminded him of two Jewish guys that work for him and they both make £50k a year and I'd almost certainly win a holiday and a Rolex watch within a month. At the time I was probably making about £14k a year plus an XR3i company car which wasn't bad money at the time. I asked him what car he'd give me and he said that once I had my own branch he'd assist me in financing (with my own money) a nearly new W124 Mercedes. I followed up by asking about the hours as I worked from 9 to 5.30 and he replied something like from 10am to whenever the appointments are finished, sometimes as late as 11pm.

For some reason, I declined his generous offer and after lunch we returned to his office. I continued my pitch to him for probably another hour but he was convinced swapping three fucking expensive vacuum cleaners for a fax machine was an offer I couldn't refuse. I asked him what the fuck would I do with them and he said I should sell them and when I have come and see him for the chance to sell them full time.

As I'd have been sacked for swapping a fax for a few Hoovers I didn't make the sale. I still remember his private plate on the 560 though, 6MOD, his initials. Fuck knows what it's on now.

Cheap Land Rover series project, 109 petrol, probably a ringer, DVLA details, first registered January 1988, year of manufacture 1963. Reg. no. worth a few quid.

Karmann-Ghias again.
I never really liked the type-1 Karmann Ghias, but one of these type-3s has been on my lottery-list since before I could drive. Red doesn’t really suit the shape, but it is an auto, which I would like. These are slow cars anyway, so they may as well be slow and lazy.

They are loony money, 3 or 4 times the price of a Corvair coupe. https://www.autoscout24.de/lst/volkswagen/karmann-ghia?sort=standard&desc=0&ustate=N%2CU&atype=C&cy=D&ocs_listing=include&page=1#473b0b91-5d87-45c5-92bc-7c0147a9377f

I ran a 1.6 Carisma as a daily a few years back, nice drive, the hatch version has a large boot area even with the rear seats up.
Averaged around 36 mpg local and totally reliable during the year I owned it.
High clutch pedal may be a feature of the model as mine was the same.
Pity its so far away from me, bargain for someone who can fix it.

I'm useless and I think I've found the bushes. It's a pain to try and see on my phone. These would get the mot. Is the location Reading? I'm trying hard to think of a reason not to save it.
Is it still taxed and insured ffs?
