I remember thinking the CX500 was the most amazing piece of technology when it came out.
IIRC couriers couldn't get enough of them so they can't have been all bad surely?

Century’s are so cool, my favourite bit is the flap in the passenger seat to put your feet through. They’ve usually got velour not leather, because leather is too noisy!

Oh, and they still make them, slightly updated every 20 years or so since 1967.

They go forever which is the main thing a courier needed?

I had a CX500 Eurosport that did a lot of miles in a year as a courier, bought brand new in 1982 OYE92Y , I had a regular job to Buxton from Covent Garden twice a week Delivering artwork. That paid the HP and insurance each month. It would cruise at 100 but didn’t like going much faster. The speedo cable was never attached, mind.
It struggled in the West End TT against Yam LC’s etc , God knows how I survived 3 years as a messenger, before the CX I had a Honda 250 RS, that fucker could get through some gaps that even I thought would result in certain death.

The CB250RS was a much maligned bike, given frequent and regular oil changes they were superior in every way to the 250 Super dream.

Yes , I used to get lent a SuperDream by the dealer as a courtesy bike and apart from the electric start, everything else was inferior. In theory the Dream was faster but I didn’t notice, used noticeably more fuel too. When I bought the RS I wanted a Dream but couldn’t afford one, I was glad of that later.

Was the 250 RS the single? I think my old boss had one for a while.

Yes, basically an XL250 engine in a road bike frame, it was a bit smaller than a Super Dream and, from memory £200 cheaper. Never sold as well though, the 250 SuperDream was the UK’s best selling bike- until the 125 law came in.

Mine looked like this apart from crash bars with a pair of Fiamm horns attached and a Cibie square spotlight above the headlight, I really was a menace.
