Wonderful things aren't they? I think the Japanese traditionally have had aversions to leather - even the cars so trimmed seem to have had it de-natured so that there is no aroma.

Yes, basically an XL250 engine in a road bike frame, it was a bit smaller than a Super Dream and, from memory £200 cheaper. Never sold as well though, the 250 SuperDream was the UK’s best selling bike- until the 125 law came in.

Mine looked like this apart from crash bars with a pair of Fiamm horns attached and a Cibie square spotlight above the headlight, I really was a menace.
My brother and I had an XL 250 when we were kids. Dad had to put a new head on it when the timing chain jumped a few teeth. Doesn't the cam just run on the head without any proper bearing or bushings?

Given these vans seem to only do 30mph max everywhere and then struggle up any sort of hill while the chillers are running, the structural integrity isn't so much of an issue.

Yes they run straight in the head, which to be honest isn't as a bad an idea as it sounds as long as you change the oil on schedule and make sure it never runs low.
Back in the day various companies offered solutions for worn out cam bearings

A Suzuki GS250T. A spoilt lad who passed his test before us by virtue of being the oldest lad in the class bought one of these. It came fitted with what Suzuki called TSCC. We refered to it as Totally Shit Cylinder Capacity.
