Re: EBay Finds
I wonder if, in light of the Nissan/Renault fallout, Nissan might bring out a range of Dacia priced cars called Datsun.
Mini sales are on their arse now and the Fiat 5900 can't do own forever. A new Datsun Cherry with seventiestastic styling cues starting at £7995 would fly away.

Re: EBay Finds
Given the EU emission fines they probably wouldn't be able to sell them in the EU at a profit.
I think Dacia will struggle as well as a result of the CO2 limits.

I can see my kids having a massive shock when they go from some modern crap to something that requires driver input.captain_70s wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 12:18 pm Looks like a wobbed up pile of shit with a crap respray.
Anybody who's just passed their test is going to hate something that old. Whatever they learned in would have had PAS, ABS, it'd be quiet and warm and comfortable, probably had air con, may have had hill start assist, etc.
Hopefully they will do a year on 30*mph mopeds before hand so will build the healthy sense of paranoia needed for today's motoring conditions.

Re: EBay Finds
Dacia will be fine. Most models are pretty close to sub 99g/km and they'll just strangle the engines power + gearing until they get that when they need to. Similar engines used elsewhere in the Renault range can manage it - e.g. the 1.0TCi and venerable 1.5dci. If they really need to, they'll probably go 48v mild hybrid to squeak it under the limit.
Infact, being poverty models that are low in spec and thus lighter (less soundproofing, etc) which have low co2 means Renault will be able to use that to their advantage and get away with worse co2 cars elsewhere in the range. I.e. Alpine, etc

Re: EBay Finds
That's interesting as I understood that going 48V would decimate their profit margins. As the CO2 limits increase with weight it might make sense to increase their weight, which seems to be the opposite of what is intended, to get a bigger credit .SiC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 6:34 pmDacia will be fine. Quite a history for that Cambridge and amazing it survived considering. My folks had a Cambridge in the 70s and I remember being a passenger when a wasp got in the window causing my mum to crash into a dry stone wall.64A60 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 6:39 pm COD Survives!
