Oh, it's his tie, I thought it was a seatbelt attached to his bollocks, that would definitely make you drive carefully

Looks savable and only down the road from me.

Too many projects to finish and not enough energy. Especially as the Dolomite is going to consume a lot of that.

Seller also has a Minor Traveller for sale too. A lot more work but low starting price at the moment.

If you are going to have a project why not try something interesting rather than all these old British rot boxes.

They don't do it for me at all.

I was thinking last night that I'm getting a bit fed up with the endless stream of maintenance and possibly sell the all to get something nice that I can just focus on. Especially as moving here, I've found the roads around here are pretty decent.

Or sell older cars and get modern stuff. Still want a Clio II 182/Trophy. One of them with something like a 911, TVR or similar.

I do like the old European stuff but would rather deal with British rot. Exotica is something I would rather approach from a higher price level and that ain't ever going to happen now. Once they are running, I'm happy and that's no way to treat a rare French coupe....The Austin on the other hand can just stay like it is.

I paid £3800 for it after chipping £200 off as the front tyres were 9 years old. Replacements fronts cost me £240.

Water pump, belt, expansion tank, 2x rads, coils, plugs, fuel filters, top mounts have set me back around £900. Still need the front top mounts doing, which I'll get my local garage to do. Then need Aircon regas, 4 wheel alignment and it's due an oil change service (every year but I've only done 4k miles in that year). I'll get that done at a specialist - probably about £600 there.

Then the back tyres need doing. Two Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are £320 fitted.

Oh and the front discs+pads could do with changing. I did the pads last year as a stop gap when the pad warning light came on. But the disc really should have been done too. However I'm a light on the brakes, so unlikely to put any significant extra wear in this year and hence was scheduling them for changing next year.

So all in it owes me about £5k right now. Fully sorted probably will owe me nearer £6.5k.

Problem is that there is a category D marker against it which will always hurt it's value. I reckon on a good day probably £4.5k sale price.

Hence given I'm so far into it, I really enjoy driving it still and my wife gives her full approval to it (unlike my other cars), I'm going to get some more of my monies worth out of it. Only exception is if my mum decides to replace her Cayman and I buy that off her. However they've just had over £1800 bill from a Porsche specialist, so not in a particular rush just yet either.

Cheap cars to run they certainly are not! As I pointed out on AS with paulplom MX5, the full service kit for that was the same price as six Bosch plugs on the Boxster...
Most of the parts are shared with the 911 too. Which makes me think running a 996 would be possible on my budget too if I DIY. Problem is, the Boxster/Cayman is the better car on the public road imo. Even if it doesn't have that 911 badge which kinda makes me want to experience owning one for a bit..

On working out the price you forgot the petrol in it, unlike that guy on the beige who said the car he was selling would have a full tank of petrol and then said it'd be 75 quid more as a result. I think it's still for sale about a month or two later.

I have a soft spot for an A30 as it was our first family car when I was a kid. Still remember my Dad explaining how to tell the difference between an A30 and an A35!!! That must have been 50+ years ago. Christ I am old.

As I suspected I was right about everything.
