What are those pipes going into the cylinder head?
I've never seen that on a crossflow before.

Air injection into the exhaust to dilute the emissions to pretend it's a cleaner engine that it really is.

I never realised before how much that rear glasshouse reminds me of a Jensen Interceptor.

Weren't some of these supercharged from the factory? Fascinating cars. They're endearingly hideous too.

Yes there was a choice of supercharged or N/A from the factory. Most Avantis were not actually built by Studebaker, with its round headlamp bezels I would say that is actually a 1963 factory-built car - production ended in 1963 with rights and jigs etc. going to a dealer consortium. Avantis continued to be built (not as a Studebaker - the script on that car again indicates South Bend production) until well into this century.

That is a very nice piece of American car history for the price, especially if it is indeed a rare genuine Studebaker.

Just over the water from me if anyone wants it checking out.
Just seen it. No MOT, mention of corrosion on a previous test and 20k more on it than mine for more money. As Merc says containers can be far from ideal for cars, that one's going mouldy so not a good sign, saying that some containers can be really good.

Still pretty low miles tho and may be straight and have been well looked after in the past as most were mega mileage years ago. They are still much unloved and make a great work horse for not much money, I did 300 comfy miles in mine over Saturday and Sunday last weekend.

I has a lend of a mates low mileage J reg 1.9d about 20 years ago. A red saloon whch was in mint condition. He upgraded* to a silver rover 414 sli saloon in silver, N reg iirc.
He flogged the pug with 50k on iirc to a bloke who did booze and baccy runs to the continent. He met him a couple of years later and he'd put 200k on it with no trouble at all. He said it was the best car he'd ever used for the purpose.
