I can do it on bikes too, as the controls are properly organised.

It's using the gas and brake simultaneously to prevent it from stalling. You can do this with badermatics that won't idle, since your pedal count doesn't exceed your foot count.
You can do with manuals too, since your right foot is perfectly capable of operating two pedals.

Not always so, some cars don't lend themselves to the technique and it requires a lot of practice to master effectively.

Speaking of organs, those organ-type accelerator pedals are the best bloody design going.

I can't stand organ pedals, they make my ankles ache.

But I might have only tried crap examples, I think they were BMWs and vans.

Okay, after startup, the car has a perfect idle. Weirdly, pulling the connector off the idle stepper motor doesn't change a thing, it just keeps idling perfectly fine. If you then just blip the throttle, it doesn't revert to idling, it stalls immediately.

At other times, it just works perfectly fine throughout.

Do these old 405s have an ecu then, or how does this idle motor know what to do?

And there is me, thinking I just have conclusively proven that this part is not at fault.
