Two wheels good.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

Have you never had the misfortune to ride one of these? Truly horrible bike.

I believe you to be in the minority on most of those examples old lad! Especially the ZXR as they were well-loved by all and sundry, if that's a 400 they were FUN if you revved them to about 15000 rpm and kept them there :)

I just can't stand the riding position, so damn uncomfy I couldn't really think about riding. I did try it not long after my test, but I'm sure I can live without a sportsbike in my life.

I loved sports bikes... back when I could contort myself onto them. I loved my R1 and my Thunderace but at slow speeds (sadly, anything below about 100!) they are a tad uncomfortable. Great fun though when you are 'on it' and you've left your brain somewhere safe so it doesn't get hurt while you ride like an utter twat.

I spent much, MUCH money on a set of those fancy raised bars for the 'Ace which did raise them up about an inch or two which made it marginally more comfortable, but not much. That's why we had 10 bikes between us: different bikes for different rides... GoldWing 1800 was, surprise surprise, the most comfortable thing I have ever ridden and pretty rapid, certainly used to embarrass 600 sportbikes. have a look on Youtube for 'tail of the dragon' to see what they can do when being used to film sports bikes going hard.

The quickest rider I know is normally on a BMW K1600 & very little even keeps up around the twisties.

It's very true, a good 'sports tourer' is a hard thing to beat, except, possibly in the looks stakes. I have never ridden one of the big BMWs but I have heard they are rapid. Is that the 6 cylinder one?

It is, all 170bhp or so of it. He got it over a Wing as it was more fun, I'm not sure he always remembers he's not racing two smokes anymore as I've seen him cook the brakes till the front discs are glowing on a quite flat road. Mind you 15miles of constant twisties will do that ridden hard enough.

I had 3 GoldWings: 1000 (4 cylinder, wire wheels, naked) 1500 (6 cylinder full dressed thing) and 1800 which was bloody brilliant for long rides or if it was cold. The1800 could really get a wriggle on and was much lighter/lower/better equipped than the 1500.

Sods are expensive though!

Yeah I think his BMW was well over £20k with the add-ons he got with it. But then as he was telling us when he bought a new 32ft boat he kept in Ibiza just to keep some money away from the tax man years ago I think he can afford it.
