Thank you. I do abuse the poor thing, to be honest: lot's of very short journeys where it just never warms up, especially at this time of year! I think it's done about 800 miles in 18 months due to old age (mine) laziness (also mine) and Covid lockdown (not mine!). I thought it was odd (slightly) that the CEL appeared immediately upon starting the engine after a short run. This it has done before (with other warning lights, not the CEL) and was usually due to a slightly low battery charge.

I shall keep an eye on it (obviously!) and get Panhard to investigate it properly when it gets to visit next year for anti-rust treatment and new belts and tensioners which he has promised~ to do for a bargain price.

~ Not actually promised at all or even said he'd do it but, what the hell, he is going to so there!

He will have to be quick the black one will be on the market by the end of Jan. The welding is coming along nicely after he cut out all the rot and crap filler repairs from the past.

I'm glad I'm broke when you say things like that, it's about the only sort of car that'd tempt me out of the XJR.

One read of a random xtriple thread should cure you completely of that desire.....

That's the problem, it reads as 'not much worse than the XJR to sort out then'.

They only cost a fortune to maintain if you let them. Saying that I saw a quote from a VW dealer yesterday to sort an ABS fault on a Toureg. The poor fucker got fleeced for £82.50 plus vat for them to code read it. (I won't say diagnose as the quote did say they thought it was the sensor and they would start with that). They then gave him a written quote of £338 including vat to replace the rear O/S/R ABS sensor. The part from VW retails at £63.71 plus vat. I used an aftermarket sensor and charged an hour (it took less than half to actually do the job) and still managed to be cheaper than they had charged him just to plug it in. They also quoted £190 per tyre for budgets when National tyres were doing goodyear for less than that. The fuckers are ripping their customers off big time.

What sort of lunatic asks a dealer for tyres?

Ahh the sort that'd buy a toerag, I understand now.
