I haven't tried it yet, but it's bound to be better than threaded compressors of which I've got two pairs. It's not so much that I'm worried about the spring exploding in my face, but the tedious screwing the things up and down that pisses me off.

I've always used the threaded ones with welding wire wrapped round or massive zip ties to make sure nothing moves.

Fitted new heater valve to the Cowley. These modern ones seem to have the lifespan of a mayfly so will have to see.......Just in case, I have kept the old one so I can split it and hopefully repair it. The new one isn't the same anyway - its all meant for MG stuff now with rotary or slide controls - not a push-pull like mine. The Minor only has a handwheel so I can live with off and on a couple of times a year, the main objective today was containing the coolant within the water gallery which appears to have worked.....

How come heater valves seem to pack up so easily?
I suppose it's the rubber seals which perish and leak but I've had no troubles with em on any of the old motors I've owned.

Next Saab job, both sides have been 'repaired' previously which makes life harder, need to get underneath and slice out the layer of shitty repair steel. Having no ramp I'm back to chocking the car up on blocks of wood. Should be able to get it another 10 or 12" higher, enough for me to squeeze underneath.

In other news, it appears the Welsh did start using coinage during the 1970s as proof emerges from the handbrake area of an old Saab.

There has been a puddle on the left hand side of the front bumper for the last few weeks. I originally put this down to rain running out and dripping.


However it hasn't rained for the last week. Checked the coolant tank.


It's completely empty. Darn, it's never drained that much out before. Must be the left hand coolant radiator leaking. Explains where my coolant has been going. Unfortunately TADIS.

Let's have a look how much replacements will be.

That's a bit more reasonable. They also do a package with two Hella rads for £180 - because when one goes the other side is apparently usually not far off.

With my tools not here and Lockdown closing my local garage, there isn't much I can do about it. So I decided to give it a wash.



Always comes out alright after a quick wash.





Shame the garage floor is still very tacky and needs a few weeks to dry properly. I don't really want to put it up in my new storage bay yet either until I get this coolant leak sorted.

Quite see why you would want it gone, now, though!

Absolutely stupid place for it. Luckily it's high enough that you can see it, but there is little point of distance reference when reversing.
