Unobtainium slave cylinder? No way would a TVR have a bespoke slave cylinder.

The LT77 gearbox is generally tough and lasts well, while the clutch should do the same. If the car needs a new clutch, it’s an expensive job, as the engine has to come out to do this properly. The clutch’s master cylinder is a weak spot, but a new one is about £75, so curing poor pedal feel is cheap and simple.

Can't see the slave cylinder being anything other than a standard one

With a LT77, if it's the same as the install on a LR you'll need to replace the clutch fork too. As they are weak & wear though at the pivot. A standard LR forum fix was welding a bloody gurt washer over the pivot point to re-enforce it before putting the new fork in.

It's only a pressed steel part so not a huge added cost.

I try to avoid doing anything on cars because I resent transport. However, a few months back I bought another dog kennel and because as usual I needed one in a hurry against my better judgement I bought one that had lived in Stonehaven. Anyway, a few days ago the front caliper started binding which would normally involve buying a new caliper and changing it as quickly as possible.

However...

It was cheaper to buy new bolts in bulk rather than pay Ford £16.00 plus VAT for a single bolt in a single plastic bag.



Hole where the rear suspension used to be. The rear subframe went to be blasted and should be being picked up as I type.



Ah well, at least that should keep it going for a while.

A busy weekend………I’m waiting for a new master cylinder piston for the Riley and mrs Alf has gone to visit our daughter so figured I had time to slow an oil leak down on the Chevy. Since it has been off the drive the shit weather has cleaned the drive up quite well so I didn’t really want to let it get coated in oil again. It has been sat since October last year but working on the Riley has taken up a lot of time.
So Saturday arrived and off we go… Job was to remove gearbox,flywheel and clutch so that I could take bellhousing off engine and seal. Simple enough….first take up floor. Box is on just four bolts… Front section of prop is enclosed but not bad. Box itself is deceptively heavy and being tall is difficult to balance on a trolley jack on your own. Most fiddly bit was getting the output uj off as the is a bolt about an inch up inside. I then decided to do all casings joint on the box itself while was out
All reassemble by Sunday afternoon at which point I realised I hadn’t got any gearbox oil so need to go back next week and do that and refit floor.

Overall quite satisfying to get done as I did think I had run out of time and it would have to wait until next winter

My mates racing Camaro had a Muncie " Rock crusher " box .. What a fantastic name for a bullet proof gearbox !
It was prone to failing though ...

More of these bloody things ! I made another jig which helped greatly . Many thanks to Foad for his previous welding tips , tack the corners, and then join the tacks ....I only touched up 3 or 4 with a flap disc , the rest were straight from the torch !
