The old man's just turned 70 so not after an out and out sports car. It'd gone by the time we got there so hey ho. The trader seemed ok and is trying to source more so will probably go back and see what he's got. He had a blue one in but had scruffy paint, stonechips and blemishes all over it so no good. Also had a facelift one that was tidy but in that dull silver so walked away.
I know the Z's go well and make a great noise. Years ago I was in my mates Mk2 Astra with a V6 gsi engine in with the Calibra 6 speed box, we came across a Z one evening and it pulled away from the Astra, not by a massive margin but it was certainly no slouch.
Do you mean the C25XE engine? It's not that powerful, only about 170 bhp. That's hampered further with the massive standard flywheel, but if the Astra had the f28 6-speed box that'd probably been replaced with a lighter (and smaller) one anyway.

A mate's got a 350Z, it's got about 100 bhp more IIRC. It doesn't hang around.
Nope it was an X25XE out of the Vetcra Gsi, 192 bhp in standard form and the flywheel weight was pretty much halved iirc, It was 15kg ish standard but was machined down to about 7kg, no need for cats either of course. An overtake from pottering in 6th at about 50mph, dropping it down into 3rd and nailing it was really grin inducing. The F28 lasted well, an F20 lasted about 3 weeks until 3rd dropped into the bottom of the box. Initially it was fitted with an F16 but that was replaced as after a while it sounded like it was straight cut.
It was one of the very first X25XE conversions as it turned out because people were struggling with the immobiliser issue, we managed it before most of the tuning* firms did  It had a virtually straight through system on it and it sounded like a Nascar at full chat.

Ah, OK. Sounds like it was the MSD version of the X25XE then, the standard X25XE isn't any more powerful than the C25XE.

I stuck an X30XE out of an Omega in my Calibra, it's just a bored-out version of the same block but raises the power output to around 208 bhp :-)

That one on the left looks like a Teves pad used on Beetles/DAFs/NSUs. Fuck knows what that one on the right is.

I have decided to treat my old 806 as she clocked up 270k on Friday. I picked up a new old stock pioneer head unit and 12 disc multi changer all boxed and sealed for £100 didn't seem a bad deal. I just have to fit it all next week as I am getting fed up listening to crap radio as the cd player packed up.
