I will do some serious rust pictures later in the week but as the engine is locked solid there is no point trying to do anything to it other than chopping it up.
Not worth soaking it in diesel for a month or two?

At the moment I have stuck it back on ebay to try and shift it back on complete but will probably pull the engine to strip it down just out of interest.

I pulled the Landrover's wiper motor to bits and found the grease has solidified. Apparently it happens because living behind the windscreen it can get very hot. It's now soaking in thinners as the grease is baked on like paint, then I'll lube it up and get it back together before it rains again.

Now it's clean I see why the wiper tried to do the bodywork as well as the screen. I'll nick the motor off the passenger side, two is just a waste of electric.

Easier said than done, the grub screw has seized in the device that converts the plain shaft to 'modern' wiper splined fitting.

Fortunately the device is made from modern materials and is removed 'scientifically'. The bush on the nearside wiper crank is unworn and with a bit of swappery I'm back on the road. With a new bush I can reinstate the passenger wiper and, at the same time, marital harmony.

Good.

Is the Ro80 from the Preston auction some weeks back?

No this one was on ebay. The rough Preston one went for 700 and something and the other didn't sell as I tried to bid on it but the online bidding site went down and when it came back it said the lot had been passed.

The C15 van just passed its mot with only one advisory for a inner steering arm joint, well chuffed!

Even though it's salted out there and the weather is freezing cold, I'm getting an overwhelming urge to get the MGB out. Perhaps it's because I find the Laguna terminally boring and with its gearbox having a blip, lacking in trust for it. Also the house sale has taken agonisingly long and I want a bit of fun in my life right now.

Since the Laguna was pulled out of storage 4 months ago, I have done a grand total of 400 miles in it. As I don't use the car frequently, that sort of mileage isn't a problem to be doing on the MGB.

I just don't know if I've got the discipline to wash the salt off at regular intervals. Especially necessary as some of the underseal has chipped off underneath and possibly even bare metal on show.

If you feel bad console yourself with the fact that I failed to properly paint my latest bodywork endeavour before saltmaggedon (just blew it over with a rattle can) and the car now looks like this:

So whatever rust issues you have will be less bad than mine given that the chances of me having the time/weather to sand that back and apply fresh paint before Spring time are very slim...
