I picked a DeWalt cordless recip saw out of the bin last week, the positive wire from the battery holder to the switch had burned out, very easy fix, just waiting on some high current silicon covered wiring as I don't have anything heavy enough duty.

Well, the salt monkey has finally been. Looks like the last day I will be taking the Minor to work for a while. It has celebrated by announcing a clonk underneath somewhere which doesn't seem to be exhaust or damper related so I guess it will be axle-stand time again tomorrow. Hasn't been MOT'd yet this year so I think I will book it in and get in the pit up there for a proper look.

i found a dewalt cordless drill in a skip a couple of months back, ni-cad but fuck it and the battery doesnt seem to hold charge... free is free, the charger and the case were in pretty good nick. Replacement battery will probably be less than a tenner i'd imagine.Scruffy Bodger wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2019 5:07 pmI ended up with a 9 inch Makita grinder as the bricky who owned it had thrown it on a skip when it stopped working. It took longer to wire a new plug on it than to replace the brushes and the new ones were less than 3 quid postedDodgeRover wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2019 4:08 pmone of the other chippies didn't know about replacing the brushes so had been chucking away a new saw every few years...![]()

It's a lot of outlay on a free drill but I'm pretty sure you can buy new Li-ion packs and charger for old Dewalt stuff? The old Elu re-branded stuff is bomb proof.

Yep I've got an adaptor to run my 18v lithium batteries in my old nicad kit, with a bit of file action it also fits the 14.4v range too, not burned anything out yet either.
The smaller lithium packs are very cheap used but well up to running the old gear, don't forget when they were new 2.0ah would have been cutting edge.

I relived three BMW's of their differentials in the space of two hours. Lying under the thing on an old boot mat with about 2 feet of clearance.

By the way I noticed that you mentioned gummipledge recently.
We used it on my eldests Pluriel and it really cut down the leaks massively.

Get the name right you oik! Gummi Pflege or something like that, bloody Germans! Good stuff b'ain't it? Seems to have cured the slight leak I had round the front windows (the very odd drop that got round the triangular speakers) and also cured a whole variety of squeeks and rattles from the roof.

Went to the NEC Classic Car Show today. Massive as always and quite a bit to see. Didn't buy the ticket in advance so my arse is a bit sore. £31 ticket and £16 for parking.
