Interesting that the 1.5 B-series reportedly put out only 55bhp, while the 948cc in the Frogeye at the same time put out 45bhp. Possibly a big difference in Los down torque but that's related to bhp too.

Googling suggests an extra 25lb/ft of torque 1000rpm lower than the Frogeye.

LJKS did an excellent article in Car many years ago on this and also bought in BMEP.

Anyway:

Mathematically, horsepower equals torque multiplied by rpm. H = T x rpm/5252, where H is horsepower, T is pound-feet, rpm is how fast the engine is spinning, and 5252 is a constant that makes the units jibe. So, to make more power an engine needs to generate more torque, operate at higher rpm, or both.

I haven't done a finance monologue for a few days so this should make up for it.

Considering the 948cc Sprite isn't exactly a spritely thing, the A55 would definitely need that extra low down torque to have even a half decent chance of getting to any speed.

I just copied and pasted it, as you can probably tell by the word jibe in it. I assume that it's an Americanism for something like correct.

Anyway, haven't you some invoices to do?

Road tests seem to suggest the standard Sprite is only 4 seconds faster to 60mph than a 1.5 Cambridge, a giddy 20 seconds.
This is probably countered by you only being able to fit two small people and a handbag in a Frogeye, rather than filling a Cambridge with 6 people and a boot full of cases, which I imagine blunts performance considerably.

Sprites don't need to be fast. They feel fast and on those skinny tyres slide everywhere so are great fun anyway.

One on my best memories of my 1500 was being able to get it in a four wheel drift around bends in a 40mph queue on a wet A24.

Should have tried in a LandRover fitted with bar grips, will slide at sub 30 mph
