What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Found the cause of the banging when going over speed humps that litter Edinburgh. A fucked exhaust mount. Let the fun begin. A fix on a drive with a slope, and no tools, on a car that BMW decided to slam on its ass from the factory!

This morning I spoke to my Dad who told me he hasn’t been able to access his email for “ A few months” he then mentioned he wasn’t sure when his car insurances needed renewing. I checked on AskMID and sure enough 3 of them are not currently insured. This includes the 2008 Defender parked in the road at his house whilst he’s been in France for the last 2 months. Obviously without the pedal lock or steering lock on. Also the old Disco he’s just driven back from France in and his Mrs’ A4. So much for blanket ANPR coverage, his insurance ran out in May !
Interestingly LV won’t cover his Disco because it’s too old ( M reg) and Saga won’t cover his Mrs because she’s too old (81) FFS ! Too old for Saga, I didn’t know that was even a thing.
Anyway spent the last hour on the phone with Footman James who have covered all 3 plus his old SLK and TR4 for £950. To put that into perspective LV wanted £1200 for just the Defender and worthless 2002 A4.

Too old for Saga? I didn't think that'd be possible.

That'll be why I couldn't get the handbrake to free off.

It was laid up last year with the handbrake off but the good old Scottish corrosion has worked its magic.

Both sides the same. Drums were fun to remove.

I had a grand voyager like that. I ended up cutting the drums up with an angle grinder to get the fuckers off!

It been a while but back on it with the cars again.

The Cav's heater packed up last week. I tested the fan and it's fine so I think it's the thermal fuse on the heater resistor pack. Thankfully it was really easy to access and remove but unthankfully the heater resistor pack is NLA. I've ordered some thermal fuses and we will see how hard it is to solder a new one on without popping it.

Inside the scuttle, which is a known rot spot for Cavs is one of the cleanest I have seen. Its definitely the first time everything's been apart in there too. Its a great example.

The Saab will possibly be for sale once I find a suitable replacement. It's going great. I bought a stupid BSR open cone filter kit for it but because of the remap it's incredibly noisy. Standard part now refitted and filter paraphernalia sold on, at a loss of course.

TT and 75 going fine. I need to fit new back discs to the latter as the ones on the car currently are a bit horrible.
