Re: What did you do today?
This is the transaxle:
Second picture, on the back on the right, you can see a pushrod. This moves a lever which selects netural (middle), reverse and forwards.
First picture on the left, you can see the bit with a spring. This is moved by the cam. The cam is moved by a pushrod that goes to the control handle. The bit with the spring on, that pulls down the big lever on the top of the pulley which squishes the pulley down and varying the speed.
The rear pulley is spring loaded. There isn't a whole lot of spring pressure on that pulley - easy to push down with my hand. I guess as it experiences a greater load, the pulley is out at maximum. As it speeds up, the pulley is forced down by it spinning. This changes the ratio to suit.
Should give an you an idea of how its setup. Pretty much standard CVT with a bit of cheapness and a lot of plastic thrown into the design.
When in reverse, the arm with the spring on is fully moved to the rear. This removes all pressure from the top of the lever on the CVT. I suspect either the belt is slipping, or the (rusty) pulley faces don't give enough bite. So the belt flaps around and not giving drive.

Re: What did you do today?
Cut the grass with it today. Not sure if there is something wrong but the damn thing can't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Full lock at crawling speed and blade engaged can cause the engine to stall. Running along it can all be fine and then suddenly start surging. Sometime enough to stall. Engaging the blade needs to be done really slowly to not cause the engine to stall.
Not entirely sure what's wrong. Once I get my tools back, I'll get the carb off and give it a clean out. Also wondering if the auto choke is tripping in occasionally too. Noticed that the magneto insulation around the lead exit is broken and wondering if there is something breaking down in that.
Could also be that the engine is too small and shit for a ride-on.

Cripes they're not cheap!
Ended up pushing this around instead. A lot slower but that's only because I had to empty out the grass bin more often. Probably not so bad now the grass is shorter. Can see the difference in grass height it was having to cut here.

Re: What did you do today?
Just remembered I made a video earlier of it misbehaving.

Interestingly that time it did it a bit after straightening up.
It has had new air filter, plug, fuel filter and the tank cleaned out with fresh petrol. I do suspect the carb is varnished up or similar. It's been sat idle for a year or two. I'm waiting to get my tools back before I strip the carb down. Also need new o-rings and gaskets as likely going to be knackered once I pull it apart.

The thing to do would be to take one of the invicars stolen from the government, rip the body off and burn it then fit a cutting deck under the rolling chassis for lawn mowing duties.
