That's exactly the kind of thing I'd love to do to something like a Morris Minor or a Triumph Toledo.

A relatively modern engine and gearbox but still a modest power output.

Of course I would require space and skills I do not have in order to achieve any of that.

Lack of seatbelts was probably the biggest issue with driving it. Apart from wanting to naturally put one on as I sit down in a car, they do have practical benefits when driving. Mostly for when you go around a corner to find a Q7 driving down the middle of the road, so you brake hard and then find your wife is then propelled towards the dash. I guess such things like having your wife going through the windscreen when just braking to prevent a collision weren't so much a concern in the 60s...!

You kids never developed seat gripping arse cheeks, that's the issue.

Nipped to collect my sisters car because it has a clutch rattle so was using A frame. For some reason I asked my wife to come and oddly enough she said yes.
Now I've used that A frame of my friends countless times with no issue so wasn't fussed about using it but going from my sisters to the unit one of the ratchets failed. Wife jumped out and into her car to grab the brakes. Maybe things happen for a reason and that's why I asked the wife to come. Was going uphill too so could have been very serious. Certainly a brown trouser moment.

Me too, I remember that in the interests of safety my youngest brother got to sit on the middle seat in the front when the hardtop was off in the summer. At least until he was about 5. Our dog fell out once and we had to get my Dad to stop so he could catch up and jump back in.
On our annual long journey to my Grandmas at Christmas we had a Citroen Dyane back seat wedged in the back so we could face forward like Little Lord Fauntleroy.
Nearly 50 years later he’s got some fold up Exmoor Trim seats in that same S1 that nobody has ever sat in!

Me and my sister spent out time in the back of various mk1 and mk2 escort vans. Total fucking sheds they were and very much end of life. If we were lucky we could fight over a cushion.
My step dad (her real dad) raced and bred greyhounds so the fans were totally fucking minging too for added fun.
