Also, the air temperature itself is bleeding hot! Us humans can absorb temperature increases almost un-noticed but cars do not. Park one up after an hour or so running in this heat and 90 percent of it will be retained in the cooling system. Each warm start thereafter results in ancient and less than optimal rads and water pumps having to start from almost where they left off.
Even if the old girl doesn't completely cook itself, temp gauges, radiator surfaces and fan sensors all give a bloody good impression of impending doom and failure. In other words - give it a go on a cooler day and see if the symptoms persist.

If you say the cap isn't dealing though, sort that. You know that being under pressure reduces the temperature of the water?

Not so much reduces the temp, but allows it to conduct heat away more effectively hence reducing the heat. Pressurising the system also increases it's boiling point giving you a greater margin of safety.

Well I had a look under the bonnet this morning and no signs of any head gasket issues; I sucked up a bit of coolant though which confirms the system is still full of crud, even after multiple goes at flushing it, so that explains things. It pleases me that's all it is, as I've got so much to do atm and have no time to do more than the basics on cars.

Re: What did you do today?
Went to Glastonbury today as it always amuses me how hippy it is. Took the Boxster as nice weather and wanted the roof down. Did consider the MGB but this is where I should have got one with a Webasto, as I always moan about.

After the success of the 1100, I decided to pull out the MG as I haven't used it in quite a while. Quite unexpected how easily she started! Running really well too.
Can you buy Webasto roof kits still? Maybe I should get one fitted and solve the one bugbear.

Re: What did you do today?
I took a friends' BGT out for a weekend once, about this time of year too. That had a Webasto (it was also a highly "undesirable" rubber bumper car with decent suspension travel) which I thought added to its appeal greatly. People tell you to avoid them because leaks, blah blah but whoever leaves an MGB out in all weathers nowadays?
The hardest thing I've had to do for a long time was close the roof up on the 190E just before handing it over to the auctioneers. I like sunroofs.

The Webasto on the Dolomite is the only thing that isn't letting water in!mercrocker wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 7:29 pm I took a friends' BGT out for a weekend once, about this time of year too. I think I've said before, I don't like the look of Webastos. It's not my car though.
