Yep. Especially when you take into account the scrap value of my old cat. I'd be inclined to cut the thing off myself and tell them it was nicked - bet I'd still get the exhaust for the same price.

If I can cobble the spare Lexus alternator I have in place of the current Lucas 16?acr unit will it attempt to put in 100amps on start up and thus fry the single V belt if the batteries aren't actually down.
Logic suggests to me that it shouldn't do unless the batteries are both flat. I'm thinking a Toyota unit with 200k of use will be better than another cheapy that will fail shortly out of warranty

Amps wise it should only ever draw what it needs, like you say unless the batteries are totally dead dead and still capable of charging back at the full amperage? If you're aware of that fact it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd expect it'll cope, they only output what's needed.

I put a 130amp one on a LR once, the normal V-belt coped fine except when I had the 11,000lb winch working hard. Even then keeping the revs up stopped it slipping.

Can strut top bearings fail in such a way that they don't crunch etc when steering, but instead simply knock when going over bumps? Not even every bump either.

I'm running out of things to replace on the 205 and have ordered a pair of strut top bearings due to them being cheap anyway.

I suppose they could if the bearings were worn down.
I had some fail on a fiat ducato I had. They didn't make any noise but the spring would make such a boing oe twang noise now and then when I was parking it. They were seized solid in my case.
