Can you just stick any old inline pump in the engine bay to get yourself going again? I've done that in the past to prove it was a faulty pump before removing it and the engine ran fine.
What happened to the used one???
This was years back when I used to help out on occasion at my mates garage, I used to use the pump he had lay about that he used to drain dead cars of their fuel. I found it to be very handy when diagnosing certain faults.

I got a very cheap polishing kit from somewhere when I did my SAAB, can't remember where. Wasn't a headlight one, just a normal polishing mop about 2" across.

Make sure you use masking tape. On slip and your paint's fucked.
Ask me how I know.

I used something similar to this with good results.
You use a cordless drill to do the hard work.
