Stupid questions about motorised conveyances

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Whilst we are talking about auto boxes the box on my wife's "06 Lexus RX300 needs the fluid changing, I remember the last one I did it was cheaper to order genuine fluid from America than her it here and non genuine fluid was thought to be a bad thing.
Does anybody know what the current thinking is please?

Bloody autobox!

Gave the Renault a run to test the box now it has fresh oil.
Started off great, going up and down the gears much better than before. I'd Alan made adjustments to the throttle cable as wasn't getting full revs and the car was zipping along lovely so drove a bit further.

Then it decided it was not going to change up to third.
Pulled over in a layby to turnaround and it now won't drive at all. Like it's in neutral. Rolls backwards while in drive.

It did this before and I had to get recovered home but was ok after cooling down. I had hoped the new oil would sort it but it would seem not.

Is the box fucked?
Or have I done something wrong when changing the oil?

It's a Renault automatic they never really worked when new and are to be avoided as much as possible. The do have a lot of electrics on them as Renault always wanted to make them more complicated than need be. Maybe check any connections / earths you can see.

A question for the more able-minded... at the service the garage reckoned that the brake fluid is '-1%. What does that mean? Fucked? If so I am a tiny bit more pissed off as it had a brake fluid change at the last service done by Central Garage, so just on a year ago.

I'd say they are fishing for extra work and would just ignore it, every 5 years will do for average mileage.
