Pulled the plugs tonight. That's not a bad lineup, especially considering it was high speed running a lot of the way.

Hardly used any oil, no coolant. Engine is doing ok other than needing a heat shield between the carb and the exhaust manifold.

Glad to see you're getting there Phil.
Your missus sounds a bit like mine who views cars as being the same as fridges. I'm still trying to get her to accept that the VW T2 drives differently from her Roomster and it's not going to throw her off the road, even in a straight line.

In a way, she's always worked hard and bought herself new vehicles.
So, older ones are viewed with scrutiny.

I just sent an email to Fatsco about the gearbox-governor.

They have reconditioned parts listed, but there's 2 part numbers and I'm unsure of the difference between them. They'll help out, they were incredibly helpful last time.

What does the governor do? I've never understood autos.

Pretty straightforward. The basic gist is it spins with road speed.
The faster you go, the more the valve opens with centrifugal force.
The pressure from it is piped to the valve block. Each gear has a valve with each one having a progressively stronger spring.

Add the governor valve opens as you increase speed down the street, each spring will succumb in sequence to the rising pressure and engage the next higher gear.

That makes sense thanks.

Jacked the car up and used a really really old tool to try and fix the gearbox. Occam's Razor.

I adjusted the gearbox throttle modulator linkage, because it wasn't right after I'd dicked about with the carb linkage portion.

I'll have to get it pinging hot again but right now cold it's changing gears very nicely.

Yup, governor is sticking when it gets hot.

That's an easy fix. New governor time.
