Fabbed a bracket to support the return pipe better, didn't like the original design. Connected all the pipework up to the heater and filled the system back up.

I now have a working heater! The valve operates correctly too, dialing it to hot makes it hot.
One more thing off the list.

Screen defrost pipe

Not quite, but the end is certainly nearer.
Oh, I need to set the tappets properly too, right now they're set approximately.
I also need to relocate the battery to the trunk

Just ordered the correct thermostat for it. Typically it doesn't take a regular one, it's a specialized deal. Go figure.
