Last night was another test of the car's structure. Driving along and WHAM hit the subframe on a piece of worn out road surface, where the center of the lane was raised way up.

It wasn't hoying down with sideways rain today, unlike yesterday so I decided to address the exhaust, which had become quite chattery.

Pulled the manifolds off to investigate.

Split it all down, made new gaskets and got hog wild with the RTV.

All back together just as the daylight was fading. Year drive shows it's nice and quiet again. Happy with that.

Posted this photo and in a bunch of places have received flak for parking the car in that space.

The worst parking lot ding I've received on that car was when I parked in the furthest space from the store doors with no cars around for at least ten spaces in any direction. Came back out to find someone has parked up next to me and opened their door into mine.

So, I just park the car now and fully expect parking lot rash. The car needs paint and body anyway, it makes driving the car much more enjoyable than having paintwork paranoia.

A ding on a patinated 1950s car is not worth worrying overly about. Far better for folk to fret about their leased tanks with impossible paint finishes and razor-edge flanks that cost ££££ to rectify before the eagle-eyed handback appraisals....

Years ago when I lived in Margate I sometimes took my 61 Impala bubbletop to the big Sainsburys store near Ramsgate, I used to park it in the middle of four spaces furthest from the store. That was before they had cameras to spy on you and cars were enormously bloated.
