Less good yet. It's a really awkward place to work and that metal is thick with a lot of elastic memory. Too hot to continue.

Fixed headlight (rusty spring clip failed causing bad connection) tonight. Tweaked timing and mixture.
Phil
Happy plug. Car now sits really well at 2000 RPM, which is pretty much bang on 45 mph. Fuel economy has also improved.Phil

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Lubricated all linkages, set timing scientifically with a light, checked vacuum advance, fixed the low-note horn.
Seeing that, I went out for a drive to the store and bought things to make old fashioned orange cream soda. Got that out of my system now so that's good.

It's running sweetly now, just on the verge of pinking at full throttle at real low RPM. Perfect.
Filled the screen wash with better quality fluid, the boys stuff went all gooey and moldy yuck.Seeing that, I went out for a drive to the store and bought things to make old fashioned orange cream soda. Got that out of my system now so that's good.

I'm glad you clarified that the stuff in the mug was orange soda not screenwash.

I'm never, ever one to litter but I may have been guilty in the past of using the elastic on those poxy magic trees to fire it out of a friends car window on a long journey. Those Vanilla ones make me feel queasy/sick. Not a fan!

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
I remember buying a Mini when I was about 17. Nice little thing - twin carb MG engine but otherwise all stock and still on spastics. Went down to Bournemouth in it with a mate to skirt-chase.
Got halfway and we want to chuck up. Something fucking STINKS in here....After almost completely stripping out the interior I found the remains of one of those plastic trays with vents that held a horrid waxy stick of STINK that old Dorises used to prop up on their bathroom cisterns.
I say "held" because the fucker was about empty, except for a sliver of pink slime. The rest of it had leached out into the suede-like "carpet" that BMC used to differentiate your De Luxe Mini from the single-clock povvo ones. That fucking stank too.
I'm no litter-bug either but I'm afraid the plastic tray and the piece of carpet went frisbeeing over the roadside hedge and for all I know still festoon the back of a hedge on the A31.
We didn't snare any fanny either so I couldn't even use one of those to get the Aunty Doris bathroom scent off my fingers.

The elastic on these doesn't last week these days.Scruffy Bodger wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 10:32 am I'm never, ever one to litter but I may have been guilty in the past of using the elastic on those poxy magic trees to fire it out of a friends car window on a long journey. The old tree, fitted last summer was dangling just by the cotton, no stretch left. That occurred under the massive weight of the tree.
