Is all good. Know how to do it now.
Might lift the head off the engine today, some of the oldtimers who have run these straight eight engines suggest first to slather some Marvel oil on the valve stems to free up any crap in the guides and stop the valves from sticking.
Might as well give it a try. If that doesn't work then I'll just have to pull the valves and do it properly. That however requires a tool I do not have and isn't that commonly available. Fun times

Soaked everything else down in engine oil to stop it rusting. I'll add a bit more oil to the stems in the morning and then put it together tomorrow evening if time permits and see if it plays ball.
If not, it comes apart again to have a valve job

It ran beautifully for about 3 minutes then the valves got stuck again.

Fixed the dash gauges and got that all refitted.
Also started on finishing the front end wiring. Parking lights and indicators all work now. Headlight needs connector taking apart and rewiring.

No. 8 exhaust valve took 40 minutes of fight to remove from the guide, it was all just gummed up and dirty.
Just got the rest to do now.
