The same would happen and it'd be $100. I blame the bean counters.PhilA wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 2:19 pmNo, but the same quality would be $50 not $22DodgeRover wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 11:26 am Bet it was built by those commies wouldnt have happened if it was made in the USA or Great Britain

I nearly became an alcoholic when I was a consultant. A free bar every night when staying away and regular drinking games. Work hard, Drink hard.

Bought a replacement compressor. Works nicely.
Weather's gone nasty. Put new wipers on. These ones work nicely.

Been slowly cleaning up the chrome. Straightened the grille and hood out too, now it all lines up better.
Keeping at it, a few minutes at a go.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
I have ordered a high soeed rotary paint demolishing tool.
It should be here on Thursday. I tried setting the valves, got rained on heavily and soaked through.
Need to sort the garage out. Still do not know what I am gonna do there...

Could you build a basic pole barn, (with a secure tool area at the back) to give a bit of shelter, the sides could then be filled in as time/ money allow?
Obviously I've got no idea what hoops you might have to jump through to do that.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
The thought had occurred, but being as over 50% of the original structure was destroyed, anything going up in place will need to be subject to planning permission, engineering drawings, inspection, code etc.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 9:14 pm Could you build a basic pole barn, (with a secure tool area at the back) to give a bit of shelter, the sides could then be filled in as time/ money allow?

I have a foundation so ultimately doing buried poles for a structure like that would be OK in terms of continuing to box it in but really I just need to tear down and rebuild plumb.
We'll get there somehow.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
hot and sweaty afternoon gave rise to some troubleshooting.
Engine cold, sat 2 days without running.
Compression test (dry, psi).

Compression test (wet, psi)
120 (+4.3%)
128 (+3.2%)
128 (+34.7%)
115 (+1.7%)
125 (+2.4%)
115 (-0.8%)
123 (+17.1%)
120 (+0.0%)
So, cyl 3 is a touch low... and comes up real nice when oiled down, cyl 7 is a bit marginal and again comes up nicely when oiled.
Result? Yea, the rings are tired. Dry, none of the cylinders leaked down over 5 minutes. All took about 5 compression strokes to come up to peak pressure.
Do I want to do anything about it?
