Not a lot done today but a bit further on. Looks like a rebuild or new front calipers needed as the chrome is knackered on the pistons. Also seems to be a broken spring on the rear shoes? Pads and shoes are pretty much new looking but they haven't been replaced for many years as was the rear cylinder but that's rusty internally too.

My mate has suggested to try Bigg Red for bits for a rebuild or any suggestions on anyone doing decent bits for these now?

Some flaking of coatings put on underneath to protect things and signs of plenty of grease on joints, ends of leaf springs etc etc Amazing really as my Grandad who used to service it died over 30 years ago

Can you get stainless pistons?

I dunno, I haven't looked yet and don't know the condition of the bores. The brakes would probably still work OK with worn pads? These pistons appear to be chromed so I'm guessing they are original to the car?

I've fund this listing for a very good price on Ebay, the seller has got some proper attitude with people that mess him about and don't read the descriptions, I think it's best to call him?!

A brief mention of pistons on these on a forum reckoned they weren't super tight on tolerance to seal (no HBOL available at the mo) Another listing reckoned NOT to split the calliper if you could help it to avoid leaks? Pretty sure I'm capable of getting it clean enough to get it back together tho, it certainly should still be flat.?

It says the seller does combined postage so will probably get a seal kit for both sides and some cheap rear cylinders at the same time as they are probably all much of a muchness?

I just need to find out if it is deffo a broken spring now.

I do like all the things that say don't split calipers, it'll only be an O-ring or two between the sides. Hardly difficult to refit.

Exactly my thinking mate. They were made to be serviced in the first place FFS.

Cleanliness next to Internet Dogliness and all that.

Looking at some of the photos online it looks like that spring may be just some sort of helper spring and not broken?

They should really go further and tell them to go nowhere near them...
