Wuss, you could have welded that from underneath surely! Incidentally I saw the owner of the Opel the other day, haven't seen him in years

I have welded it from underneath :p The top layer of steel in between the chassis rail and the bed has totally de-laminated and is now about 30x its original thickness and has pushed the bed away completely! If you can weld to pure rust I'll be mightily impressed
He's a rare un that Rollo, never could get a word out of him whenever I saw him.

Re: Dangel 504 Pickup bits needed. Page 13
I did a bit more to this, spot the deliberate* mistake #BOLLOX Not quite sure when that happened tbh, probably when I raised or lowered the bed?
I was working just inside the doorway and it was getting late on when doing that bit. Thankfully I hadn't fully welded it in when I decided to view it from a bit further away and realised my fuckup.
Thankfully I had access to a few ropy old clamps, some steel and a trolley jack. The beds all stretched so I had to cut right across it to alleviate the pressure/movement it was causing. A combination of jacking, clamping, then lowering a bit got it back somewhere a bit closer to where it should have been.
Finally I beat a 2mm piece of old galve in into submission until it matched the wibbly wobbly bed. I've still got a bit more to do on the other side and need to put the centre hinge back on but the side is too warped at the mo.

Still not got the second half of the bed so the 504 is still on hold.
In other news I just got insurance sorted for the 405. 3K mile policy and I've paid a bit extra to get an agreed value of 3K on it. I didn't think 136 quid was too bad?

Re: Dangel 504 Pickup bits needed. Page 13
I've just checked the how many left site and it looks like the 405 is the only one registered on the road in 2020, there are 19 others left on SORN. Must get the photos sorted. I bought some Bilt Hamber Speed Wax which seems to be doing the job and is lasting well so it should only need a good rinse and a Hoover.
The Volvo is still being used as a mobile shed/skip. Ecu light is off and on when it feels like. I've been doing some 80 plus mile runs in, all on a roads and dual carriageway's and the fuel consumption has gone down... Now reading 39.2 to the gallon when locally I was getting 40
Still no sign of the last panel for the 504 bed either.

Re: Dangel 504 Pickup bits needed. Page 13
Looks like I'm off the 504 project, not that anyone has told me but I saw it a couple of weeks back and both chassis members have both been replaced. Just what I needed with virtually no work for 6 fucking months...
So onto other things.
Off to the Algarve in the old man's Z instead then. A very wet drive down to Portsmouth from Shropshire meant a bit of hypermiling could be done after a trip reset. I actually got it higher than that briefly over the 150 mile journey.
Currently still on the ferry to Santander. He's blind in one eye at the mo because of a cataract and his Mrs doesn't like boats so I kindly volunteered to help out.

Re: Road trip
Spotted this in the underground garage for the hotel we are in in Salamanca. Parking here is chronically bad, fuck knows how much this place cost to build, must have been so high, we are parked on level 3 which is effectively 6 stories down!
The main square is quite something but all very surreal with everybody masked up and a heavy police presence.

Re: Road trip
Today's wanderings and a bit more automotive content.
Anyone hazard a guess at what that once was, the metal fan blade was whizzing round nicely in the wind.
The museum was shut sadly but I did sneak a peak at that thru the fence.
This thing was certainly a target and probably more apt posted on another forum Fucking uploader's up the swanny again !- Attachments
