I'm sure it's has had the new one slapped right on top. "welding to MOT standards" I think they call it.

Looks like an upmarket version of an ex's Caddy inside, I bet it's as uncomfy & horrible to drive.

I'm honestly surprised it cost more than your TT, I'd assumed TTs were higher value.

Pull up the Gear stick gaiter and see if there is any abandoned stash in there, CoPart will probably have checked though.

I was guessing German, you might even have hinted at German earlier.
BMW was my guess, maybe a 730d with M trim

I remember hints about Gulfs now he's got one, didn't pay attention at the time.

Are these the ones with the big foam blocks behind the wings to help the arches rot? or was that the model before.

Nah, I've got an access point in the loft space which meshes into my main WiFi APs. So super strong signal in there!

Yeah if you're old and crippled in some way then I imagine it's going to be uncomfortable. Of course it handles well as that's the point of the GTI and VW needed to knock it out of the park with the Mk5 after the incredibly lack luster GTI attempts on the MK3 and MK4 GTI to re-establish the brand. The Mk5 GTi will and is now becoming a classic in its own right. Especially the R32 is and held their values pretty firm.

A major reason I wanted a Mk5 GTI was to have a go in one while they still could be had affordably. If I don't like it, I'll punt it on. If I like it, I'll spend more to get a better one. Or newer one.

If this proves to be a reasonable example then maybe I'll refresh some suspension parts and take it to a few trackdays. In my mind, the mk5 GTI should all be about this price point rather than the added premium they have.

TT are consistently cheaper than the equivalent S3 , Golf GTI or Golf R. It's weird as the TT is stiffer, made of aluminium (lighter) and better suspension setup. Usually better spec too. I can only assume that people like/demand practical hatches more over a far less practical coupe.

Like the TT 225 Mk1 is equivalent to the S3 MK1 in terms of drivetrain. But the S3 is twice to three time the price.

Likewise the TTS MK2 is equivalent to the S3 MK2 but again a lot cheaper than the S3.

While sharing the same underpinnings, they all do drive very differently. Like from having very different suspension setup and geometry.

Yes. As above, amazingly these arches have no grot.

Pre 2015 Diesel is a no go for me due to Bristol CAZ making it a £9 per day charge if I ever need to pass through or go in.

Plus I've already got the Civic estate and E320 estate as my big barges. So I really don't need another.

Dunno. Don't really care as it has a 12 month MOT on it. If I get a year's use out of it then it's still a cheap 200bhp hatchback, even ignoring the GTI badge.

The WORK SHY GLASS-BACK MACAQUE SHAGGER merely self-identifies as old.

A fun to chuck about 4 door hatch that you can still get parts for is a very sensible choice.
I thought it was a Diesel when I saw the red badge so top bombing for it being a Petrol.

Tidied and tarted up, you could even see a profit on this.
