While still rolling. You stop and then fire the engine back up (it starts up straight away but runs like juddery arse).

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Could it be weak idle mix , then drawing in oil on the overrun , valve guide seals worn,( high vacuum ) , which puts out the fire in the cylinders ? Does it smoke when at the bottom of a hill you apply the throttle ?
Petrol tank vent partly blocked ?

Ah the youth of today.fried onions wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:41 pm Jon, my twopenn’orth is that you should avoid going down through the gears when slowing down. This is of doubtful value and only wears the gearbox needlessly. This car will stay happily in top gear until about 20 MPH when it can be put into neutral. Brakes are for slowing down, not gears.

As for the Volvo, bring the cunt to me to fix or burn it with fire.

.. After a brief whizz through the posts I'd say you have an air leak around where the base of the carb sits.

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Or some play in the butterfly linkage that is allowing it to close completely?
Ben
Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Could be wear to the spindle(s); after being open at full or at least partial throttle one or both plates are failing to close- probably the primary, leading to a weak mix and stalling.
