Bloody new cars. I had to remove the alternator on my V50 via the bottom after managing to undo it, that was only just possible after I'd removed the power steering pump.

Still a few minor jobs to do on this car, could do with another service and change of both coolant and brake fluid.

That MG is spacious. The blue Saab I ended up removing the alternator from underneath.

MGZT diesel we had shat it's alternator at about 50k as they are precisely positioned to get oil dumped on them every service, had to remove that from below (by feel from memory) as despite being visible it couldn't be accessed from above.

Couple of weeks ago I had the aircon regassed in the Saab. It’s made it much more pleasant on a hot day HOWEVER the external temp sensor on the odd occasions show minus degrees celcius.

I’ve got a tested and working second hand one from Neo Bros which I will fit soon, more than likely when I do its service.

Binimini has been behaving and that also needs a service now, as it’s been about a year and 7,000 miles

Binimini needed urgent front end work as the suspension started making some untoward noises.

Got a pair of good used struts from Silverlake near Botley, which stepdaughter helped me remove. It is her car, she did a year of entry level car mechanics at college, she’s not getting away lightly.

Nearside swapped like a dream. Nothing seized, broken, rusted or in poor condition. Just a simple swap.

Offside was a bastard. First the hub carrier pinch bolt sheared despite heat, penetrating oil, more heat and more penetrating oil with an extra measure of penetrating oil and heat for shits and giggles.

I dashed over to Silverlake to get another hub carrier and wanted to swap the decent (as in less than a year old) bearing and bottom ball joint over from the now fucked hub. But the ‘new’unit had other ideas so this is now waiting for me to find someone with a fuck off hydraulic press to push out the old bearings.

Meanwhile sd’s boyfriend took the knackered out hub to his workshop and reamed out what was left of the old bolt, and cut a new thread which matched a new pinch bolt. He’s an engineer with plenty of machining tools (except a press!). Must be ever so slightly out somewhere as the bolt would take. I had a word with the tame fitter at work who brought round some high tensile studding and 2 nylocs and washers, so we used that to clamp the hub carrier to the strut. Not perfect but it’s secure.

I managed to reassemble the rest before it got dark last night.

This morning there was clonk as I went to check everything was still torqued up. Drop link had bollocksed itself; thankfully ECP had one in stock which was collected and fitted within half an hour.

I’m glad I did this change as I hadn’t seen how quickly the strut tops had deteriorated in a matter of weeks. Unfortunately I can’t attach a video for some reason.

Also I need to rebuild that replacement hub with some urgency. If I can get the bearing and bottom ball joint pressed out somewhere
