much pre-80s stuff is a bit sketchy above 70mph on the motorway.
Bollocks.
My Triumph Herald would cruise at 90mph very happily.
As would many 60s and 70s cars.
Ben
Top speed of the most powerful herald 13/60 is 85mph. Everything else is slower....
So flat out on the level. A load of Bollocks in actually doing that for any length of time in one.
Everything else is much bigger and makes a stronger side draft from their sheer size. You really notice it when an X7/Q7/whatever is tanking past in the lane next to you.
Have you driven one?
Mine was slightly tuned, but would run at full throttle all day.

They were accurate then. All you needed to do was work out the average between the highest and lowest numbers the needle swung back and forth between......
Or time it between the marker posts on the motorway.
Sounds like you're fancying a powerful 50s or 60s barge, Rich.
I don't know what your budget is but the dealer I got the Mayflower from is selling a Morris Six (Wolseley 6/80 shape) that looks a good'un. He was pleasant and easy to deal with.

I’ve seen that advertised and it looks good value, especially to similar condition Minors. My budget is around £5k so that fits right in.
But for the last day or so I’ve convinced myself I want a Rover P6. I’m getting a lot pleasure out of deciding what to get and realising prices seem to have come down quite a lot in the last year, when you start looking properly. And that’s without making insulting offers whilst waving Pound notes at some poor sod.
Now, do I want an early 2000 in white with red leather or a late 3500 auto with ribbed nylon seats and ET headrests ?
Just scared of the brakes- too many memories of Junkman ripping into every P6 on the EBay thread.
Angrydick is going to be your man for understanding what is available for the brakes.
Imo and what I usually do is just replace it on purchase with rebuilt/new. So basically keep in the budget for rebuilt rear calipers and master cylinder, as well as find somewhere to get it done, then the brakes shouldn't be an issue.
You will get issues because it's an old car, but that's just par for course.
Ideally find a car that hasn't been sat around for ages in a garage. Unfortunately shiny car and mechanically fit are often mutually exclusive in the classic car world.
