Yup. Makes me worry that things like the oil pickup don't have a gasket or the rods are in backwards.

Re: 1966 Plymouth Fury 3
I fitted a "rebuilt" straight six Zephyr engine once, only to find the stretched old big end bolts had been re-used with the inevitable grenade going off less than a thousand miles in. Why didn't I take the sump off? Because it looked so clean and the fella was in the club, knew his stuff, yadayada.
I'd sooner take my chances on a scrapyard engine - it more than likely got the car in there OK.

Yeah, there's truth to that. I think I would like to measure the bores and look at the bearings too.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 4:18 pm I fitted a "rebuilt" straight six Zephyr engine once, only to find the stretched old big end bolts had been re-used with the inevitable grenade going off less than a thousand miles in. It's meant to have 360 pistons on a 318 crank to give 327ci. Only way to tell is to break out the verniers.

I just got a message back from the seller- it was the same workshop that did the engine and transmission as did the body.
Yup, it's all coming apart.

The heads are remarkably clean inside, so they've at least been in the parts washer.
Investigation will show.
