What year is the leon?
My 2010 was the worst and most unreliable car I've ever owned. That was a 1.9pd. I can only imagine the 2.0tdi is even worse.

My convertible was the 140 tdi but I think it was remapped. It got along very well indeed.

PD or CR? Could be either at that age as change over was around then.

Iirc the 170bhp PD shits their injectors. 140bhp PD doesn't and more reliable generally. The 2.0TDI Golf/etc did like to eat Turbos. Not sure if that's less of a thing now as many probably been changed.

The 1.9TDI PD is the most solid out the lot but this age Golf will be a bit lacking in power (iirc 100bhp or something like that?) compared to the 2.0TDI.

CR Golf I don't think has the CP4 fuel pump that my A4 (and many BMWs) had?

A4 is longitudinal btw. Golf/A3/Leon/etc are transverse.

While same basic block, VAG varied the internals a fair bit and so not like for like at all. A4/A6/etc was setup with new stuff for more refinement. A3/Golf/etc was not and used older stuff (which was more proven).

You see this on the A4 B7 2.0TDI where they fucked around with balance shafts and oil pumps with disastrous consequences. While the similar aged A3 2.0TDI (and Golf) didn't and had no real issues around that area in comparison.

My money, given similar condition, I'd probably go for the Golf. Not least I find the interior on that age Leon as fugly.

Its a limited edition Seat Leon "550 " to celebrate british touring cars .its on ebay .. less miles than the golf, but 170bhp and cheaper insurance too .
The golf 140 bhp is the preferable car , leather seats . ..etc later shape, angry grille..
